MONTANA GELBVIEH ASSOCIATIONMontana was the 6th State Association Chartered in the US.May 21, 1974 Despite stormy weather and bad roads, 21 hardy Gelbvieh enthusiasts turned out on May 21, 1974, at the Yogo Inn in Lewistown to form the Montana Gelbvieh Association and to elect a board of directors. Those elected were: Clyde Hawks, St. Xavier; Duane Mathison, Miles City; Randy Ridgeway, Stanford; Ray Hill, Raynesford; H.W. (Ray) Burns, Big Timber; Jerry Mosher, Augusta; Ray Williams, Landusky; Jack Schmitt, Geyser; and Phil Haglund, Jr., Brockway. The Board of Directors present, met and elected Ray Hill president, Phil Haglund, Jr., vice president, and Jack Schmitt secretary-treasurer. Others who have become members up to this time, include: Ayers Ranch Colony, Grass RangeRobert and Jean Anderson, RaynesfordXZ Ranch, Dave Roen, StanfordBoe Ranch Co., Rasmus Boe, McLeodGeorge D. Smith, RoundupDel Hardy, Miles CityJohn Holzer, StanfordRobert and Evelyn McCloy, CircleWilbur L. Larson, CircleYarger Inc., Floyd R. Yarger, CircleBurt and Emma DeLay, Glasgow. The first Montana Gelbvieh Association sale will be held as part of the Montana Livestock Expo, December 6, 1974, at the Montana State Fairgrounds in Great Falls, Montana. The Gelbvieh tour to Germany will be September 5 through the 17. Contact the AGA office.
